Lecturer in Educational Research: Adult Literacy or Numeracy

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading department of Educational Research and to strengthen our research, development and teaching in the areas of adult literacy and/or numeracy.

The successful applicant will have knowledge and experience of some aspect of post-compulsory education and training in further education colleges, adult community education or workplace learning. They will be able to support the department's enquiry-based approach to teaching and a situated, socio-cultural approach to literacy and numeracy studies. They will be familiar with the current government Skills Strategy and relevant policy issues. Possible research specialisms include adult literacy or numeracy in post-school settings, informal and work based learning and basic skills training, academic literacies, ICT and on-line learning.

The person recruited to this post will be expected to contribute to both research and teaching activities and to have a strongly developing RAE publication profile.

The person we appoint will contribute to our new on-line supported MA in Adult Literacy, Language and Numeracy (ALLN). They will work closely with members of the Centre for the Study of Education and Training (CSET); the Workplace Basic Skills Network; and the Lancaster Literacy Research Centre which is a partner in the DfES funded National Research and Development Centre (NRDC).

This post is on the Lecturer A scale and is for 3 years in the first instance.
