I Am A Cloud, a new performance by Song Theatre, completes a trilogy of theatrical experiences reflecting Song's personal journey of self-discovery. I Am A Cloud explores the feeling of isolation and the experience of not belonging by digging up the memories of growing up and experiencing the lightness of life - as light as the clouds; flowing in the collective civilization like blowing in the wind and asking the question: "Where should I be in the contemporary world?" The performances unfold like a dream: comic, erotic, and disturbing as the rather bemused hero confronts the inhabitants of his subconscious.
Born in Taiwan, Song Chang studied at The Taipei University of Art, where he trained as an actor and a stage designer. He draws on his experience as an artist beginning his career in the midst of a monumental time of reform for Taiwanese expression, being especially moved by the responses of people adapting from a life of oppression to utter liberation. His work is a hybrid, using elements of contemporary Taiwanese culture, fictional and biographical confessional structures along with more European elements: particularly psychoanalysis and surrealism. His productions are composed of painted images; movement; gesture images; and interpersonal conflicts, all presented to a soundtrack of international music.
Song's works include: Floating [1999], Central St. Martins College of Art & Design; The Self Unseeing[2000], Hoxton Hall; I Will Do It I Will Do It I Will Do It [2002] Cochrane Theatre; Drunken Life, Dreaming Death [2003], Cochrane Theatre & Arena Festival 2004, Erlangen, Germany.
