Lisa Francis: Will the Minister make a statement on the progress of the
'Creative Future: Cymru Greadigol' strategy? (WAQ43140)
Alun Pugh: Cymru'n Creu reviewed progress against the action plans in
'Creative Future: Cymru Greadigol' in February this year. There are 113
separate action points in the strategy and 96 per cent of all the action
points have either been completed or are progressing well. Cymru'n Creu have
agreed not to pursue the five action points that have not been progressed.
Under the auspices of Cymru'n Creu, the University of Glamorgan will shortly
complete a detailed framework for the evaluation of 'Creative Future: Cymru
Greadigol', including all the available research information and identifying
gaps in current research.
The creation of the culture board will provide opportunities to develop
better and more integrated cultural policies, greater efficiency through
shared services, and greater synergies with local government support for the
cultural sector. These are the key themes of 'Making the Connections'-the
Government's agenda for reforming the whole of the public sector in Wales.
The Culture Board for Wales (Diwylliant Cymru) will be chaired by me and
will comprise the chairs and chief executives of the arts council, the
National Library of Wales and the National Museums and Galleries of Wales.
It will also include representation from the WLGA and the Welsh Books
Council. Its remit will be to set the overall strategic direction for the
cultural agenda in Wales, including oversight of the preparation of a new
culture strategy.
