The agreed rate by the Trust is £82 an hour. This is done by the consultant on-call. If there is a consultant around on the shop floor during these 'lean' times anyway or someone comes out of the office to help out then there is no extra pay claimed, you just dig in and deal!
I think there is an important principle to bear in mind here. It is quite possible for our weekend service to function safely when we are one middle grade short, its just the operational standard (4 hour target) that suffers and that's what the Trust cares most about. If that is the case then we are effectively chasing a waiting list and should be paid the same as our consultant colleagues who come in at weekends to do 'initiative lists' i.e. £200 an hour. Not only that but our nursing staff who also work shifts beyond their contracts to maintain the target should receive enhanced payments too.

--> OK, you both. What are these rates? Let the list know and perhaps you'll
have some volunteers to cover... More to the point, we'll have an idea of
what this particular service is worth in the eyes of your management.
BTW, how do you reflect on the rota which consultant this is who will be
available locally and sober to come in at short notice? Or do you use the
one who's on call anyway (in which case this rate is an additional bonus to
the on-call rate)? Do I understand correctly that if it happens during the
times when you already have a consultant on the floor, an ADDITIONAL
consultant covers the shortage...
