> The Third Art of Management and Organisation Conference
>
> To be held at
>
> Akadmia Pedagogiczna, Krakow, POLAND
>
> 5th - 8th September 2006
>
>
> Organisers: Ian King (Essex Management Centre), Steve Linstead (University of York) & Ceri Watkins (Essex Management Centre)
>
> With the support of the Standing Conference on Organizational Symbolism and Culture (SCOS); Tamara: The Journal of Critical Postmodern Organisation Science
>
> A Call for papers, streams, exhibitions, installations, special performances and plenary sessions
>
> September 2002 saw the launch of the Art of Management and Organisation Conference in London. Our aim was and continues to be the exploration and promotion of alternative interpretations of management and organization life to traditional scientific discipline-based understandings.
>
> We continue to argue that the broad arena of ART encapsulates this call. As such we seek to open-up all of our senses to this potential and are convinced that the collapsing of our traditional objective positions and grasping deeper, richer forms of knowing is essential for our present and future understandings. Our intention is to open-up and explore rather than necessarily always seek explanation and control.
> The recent decision by the American Academy of Management to cease support for Arts at its annual meetings places greater responsibility on all of us to further this route of examination and discovery - and we intend to do so. Our next location in Krakow offers us every opportunity to continue down this route.
> After two very successful conferences in London and Paris we are very excited about the invitation to locate our next conference in Krakow. This a different type of setting to our previous locations - here there is an excitement of the new with Poland only recently having entered the European Union, yet combined with cultural legacy stretching back centuries. Krakow is the cultural hub of Poland, possessing an extensive and contrasting range of art, music, dance and theatre. An old city with a young heart! It is a city boasting an enviable artistic and literary heritage and possessing one of the most magnificent market squares and oldest universities in Europe. This is truly a city of delights. Street theatre abounds, music is diverse, ranging from old to new, Polish to international. This is a superb location and our conference will be located centrally, only five short tram stops from the heart of the city. Our sights are already set on organizing a number of visits and social events - and we are very excited about the scope and surprising nature of these! We are convinced that Krakow will be a location that will live long in the memories of those able to attend the third Art of Management and Organization conference.
>
> As this stage we are seeking proposals for events, displays, exhibitions, performances, streams, and workshops, which address our themes - We want to include music, photography, sculpture, poetry, painting, installations etc. Overall, the intention is to strive for the conference to remain as participative and vibrant as the first two - so we are presently looking for suggestions and ideas. If you have some - please share them with us!>
>
> We are very keen to encourage attendance from students, artistes and colleagues from other disciplines - perhaps art history, music, philosophy, or even perhaps technology or one of the science-based areas. Our desire is to expand our perceptions of the potential of this lens of engagement. We are hoping to be able to announce studentships and support for artistes [subject to competition]. We also hope to invite a number of plenary speakers - again you might have some ideas you could share with us. In short, this call is for your suggestions and ideas. Don> '> t be shy - you know we want your inputs.
>
> As a result of feedback from the last conference we have made certain changes, including a fast-track refereed stream, details of which will be announced soon - also a dedicated exhibition space and conference-long social area. Furthermore, the fee for the next conference will be all-inclusive and will include not only all meals and events, but also en-suite accommodation, yet at a similar price to Paris - approx £485.
>
> We are aware that several colleagues have already made preliminary plans for special issues etc in a variety of journals - and we hope to be in a position to announce our own journal in the near future. It will be a very exciting time over the next few months - so watch out for announcements.
>
> To give you some idea for the scope of streams we offer the following list - please do not feel constrained by this list - this is only our starting point:
>

>
> Proposals for streams should be submitted by August 1st 2005 (however we will be extremely grateful for earlier submissions as it considerably eases the administration processes)
>
> Proposals for exhibitions, special performances and plenary sessions will be considered both by the organisers and the stream convenors where appropriate, and again should be submitted by August 1st 2005. (again we will be extremely grateful for earlier submissions)
>
> Contributions for the streams should be submitted in outline - abstracts on one side of A4 - but we will accept any form of media submission you feel most appropriate for other suggestions. We are expecting to announce details of streams and calls for papers/submissions early September 2005 with a deadline for 1st January 2006.
