The book "Imperial Marriage" by Hugh & Mirabel Cecil, John Murray, 2002,
is now remaindered at the BL Bookshop. It is an absorbing story of Violet
Maxe who married Edward Cecil and then Alfred Milner. A review by Andrew
Roberts for the D Telegraph is available at www.arts.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.
There are numerous references to Kipling and to Carrie and the children;
especially re South Africa where Violet, Cecil, Alfred and Rudyard were all
present during the Boer War, John's death and Violet's friendship with the
Kipling's. This account parallel's the considerable number of references
in Lycett (1999)'s biography but with different details; the Cecil's take
issue (p345) with Lycett's reference to Pakenham's book "The Boer
War". Has any other member read this book?
