The Young Foundation Lectures bring together some of the world's most
innovative and important thinkers who are providing some of the essential
mental maps for making sense of social change in the early years of the
21st century.
The Young Foundation, which is being launched this autumn, is a unique
organisation that undertakes research to identify and understand social
needs and then develops practical initiatives and institutions to address
them.
Speakers already confirmed for this year's series include:
- Professor Charles Tilly of Columbia University - 'Why do things happen:
from 9/11 to urban riots'.
- Tariq Ramadan - ' The Place of Islam in non-Islamic Societies'.
- Arlie Hochschild of the University of California, Berkeley - 'The
Commercialisation of Intimate Life'.
- Professor George Steiner - reflections on meritocracy, half a century
after Michael Young's book 'The Rise of the Meritocracy'.
All events are in central London, free and open to all. For further
information and booking details visit www.youngfoundation.org.uk/?p=59.
