EVENT: Fourth International Conference on Social Role Valorization (SRV)
Sponsored by L'institut Valor Institute and the University of Ottawa.

THEME: Crafting Valued Social Roles
PLACE: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Description: For devalued persons, occupying valued social roles seems to be
an effective way of achieving the good life. The theme of the 2007
conference goes to the very heart of Social Role Valorization (SRV).
Plenary speakers, discussants and workshop presenters will describe how
valued social roles can be crafted for vulnerable people of different ages
(from early childhood to old age), in key life spheres (education, work,
living situation, family and friendship relations, religion and spirituality
and culture and leisure), and in various service fields (including mental
handicap, child welfare, mental health, early intervention and medicine).
The crafting of valued social roles will be approached on a number of levels
such as individual, familial, organizational and societal and from several
perspectives including practice, policy and research.

Description : Occuper des rôles sociaux valorisés se veut la clé d’une vie
pleine, particulièrement pour des personnes dévalorisées. Le thème de la
conférence 2007 s’adresse donc au cœur même de la valorisation des rôles
sociaux (VRS). Les conférenciers, les commentateurs et les présentateurs
décriront comment s’y prendre pour façonner des rôles sociaux valorisés pour
des personnes vulnérables de tout âge (de la petite enfance à la
vieillesse), dans les domaines importants de la vie (éducation, travail,
situation domiciliaire, familles et relations amicales, religion et
spiritualité et culture et loisirs) et dans des domaines de services
différents (déficience intellectuelle, protection de l’enfance, santé
mentale, intervention précoce et médecine). Le façonnement des rôles
sociaux valorisés sera abordé à divers niveaux – individuel, familial,
organisationnel et sociétal – et selon différentes perspectives incluant la
pratique, les politiques et la recherche.
