Dear colleagues
UK colleagues may be interested to hear that the European Commission has
announced the new head of their Representation in the UK. He is Mr Reijo
Kemppinen, currently head of the Representation in Helsinki, although most of us
will know him as the former Head of the Spokesman's Service in the Romano Prodi
Commission Presidency. In that capacity he spoke at an EIA/EIPA Keep ahead of
European Information seminar in Maastricht a few years back.
Interestingly, following the 'Europe Direct' saga last month, the Press
Release announcing the news has a paragraph outlining the functions of the
Representation: it includes the sentence:
'It provides information about the EU across the UK through recognised outlets
such as public libraries, business advice centres and education services and
speaks to the media' ...
so EPICS, EICs and EDCs are being acknowledged after all!
Full details:

I am sure we all welcome Mr Kemppinen to this challenging post and assure him
of our support.
Best wishes
Ian
