Liz,
A friend who used to work in a Police Museum says that the Metropolitan
Police museum, London (perhaps now called Metropolitan Police Historical
Collection) and Greater Manchester Police Museum are both very friendly
& helpful.
Hope that's a help.

Subject: Re: [SHCG-LIST] Information on police ranks[Scanned]
Hi
I am trying to find information regarding the different ranks in the
police force at the end of the nineteenth century. I would be grateful
if anyone has any website and book references. Also any details of
anyone who might be able to help.
Thanks
