What does the launch cover?
More drug misusers are getting access to treatment in England more quickly
than ever before. But is their treatment effective? Is it enabling clients
to become truly independent of drug misuse – and of drug treatment?
These are the key issues that the National Treatment Agency for Substance
Misuse (NTA) aims to tackle over the next three years. This event will
launch our strategy for improving effectiveness, how we will support it and
what it means for those working in and with the drug treatment sector.
All of our future activities will centre on the principles outlined in the
treatment effectiveness strategy, so this is a valuable opportunity to get
an early insight into the shape of things to come. A draft of the revised
Models of care for drug misusers will be available for the first time at
the event, and delegates will receive a briefing on the effectiveness
strategy along with their booking confirmation.
The launch will be followed by a period of consultation on how to deliver
the effectiveness strategy and the revised Models of care for drug misusers.
Focus on the service user's journey
The strategy will focus on improving the service user's treatment journey –
from entry into treatment, through to reintegration into the community.
It is about identifying, sharing and following evidence based best practice
which will improve:
* Treatment engagement
* Treatment delivery
* Pathways out of treatment
* Community integration.
The evidence-based strategy will challenge some existing assumptions and
practices and will put the service user's experience firmly at the centre
of developments.

Bursaries for service users and carers
The treatment effectiveness strategy is strongly focused on service users'
experience and the NTA wishes to encourage service user and carer
participation. 150 free places have been allocated to users and carers. In
order to maximise the value of these places, the NTA requests that anyone
applying for a free place provides details on how they will use and share
the information they gather after the event. Where appropriate, the NTA
will also cover travel, accommodation and subsistence costs.
