FAO subject associations, professional bodies and others with an interest in RAE 2008
This note is addressed to organisations who emailed the RAE team in response to our call for nominations for 2008 RAE panel chairs and members, issued in July 2004. We apologise for any cross-posting. Firstly we wish to thank your organisation for making nominations and to alert you to the forthcoming publication of the panel membership. We are also using this email to advise your organisation of the timetable for our next consultation, focussing on the panels' draft criteria and working methods.
Panel membership
Following the nominations process in which your organisation took part, we will publish, in the week commencing Monday 9th May 2005, the names and institutional affiliations of individuals who have been appointed to RAE sub-panels. These will be published in the first instance on the RAE website at http://www.rae.ac.uk <http://www.rae.ac.uk> Later this year, after we have secured the international members on main panels and finalised some outstanding membership details, we will issue an updated publication and analyses.
Consultation on RAE panel draft criteria and working methods
RAE main and sub-panels have met in the early part of this year to draft criteria and working methods which describe how they intend to approach the task of assessing RAE submissions in 2008. The funding bodies will invite comment from higher education institutions, subject associations, professional bodies and other stakeholders on these draft criteria through a web-based consultation. This may be accessed through the RAE website http://www.rae.ac.uk <http://www.rae.ac.uk> from mid July 2005 (approximately 16th July) and will be open until mid September 2005 (approximately 19th September). The consultation will guide respondents on the issues where we would particularly welcome comments, but there will also be an opportunity to comment on any aspect of the draft criteria.
Please would you draw the information contained in this email to the attention of individuals in your organisation who may find it useful, especially those who may wish to input to the forthcoming consultation on panels' criteria.
