No one is required to take the exams offered by the Institute of
Certified Records Managers. It is a voluntary step decision by the
individual. I know many records managers in the US who are not CRMs
and with loads of qualifications. That said many corporations have
decided to seek out individuals for records management positions who
are CRMs. They use the designation for differentiation purposes.
The Institute has been testing individuals for over 25 years. Yes
there is a cost associated with it, but the Institute is moving into
the realm of electronic online testing. this costs money.
I'm not sure what your MSc modules look like but do take a look at the
outlines for each part in the exams offered by the ICRM.
