As someone who neither belongs to RMS or the SoA, can I suggest that the
listserve is not here to make comments on another organisation.
We have so many issues to resolve re records management, can we refrain from
passing unnecessary comments? It is not very helpful.

Subject: RMS Accreditation Scheme
In response to Sarah Westwood's comments, I'd like to point out that just
because the Society of Archivists rejected an RM
Accreditation scheme does not mean that it's a bad idea. Let's face it,
the Society of Archivists is not making great strides forward with
compulsory CPD, an idea which has been knocking around for quite some time
now.
I also think that RM has grown tremendously in the last couple of years, and
I suspect that there are now many practitioners who have not arrived at
their jobs via a traditional archive/RM training course route, so an
accreditation scheme run by the Records Management Society may be just they
want.
Finally, Sarah Emmerson's original email said:
"This means there is a need to recognise both on the job practical
experience as well as professional qualifications within the RM field as
contributing towards accreditation"
So there is no reason why the distance learning courses at Liverpool,
Northumbria and Aberystwyth should not happily co-exist.
Having said all of this, I should point out that I am currently employed as
an archivist, not a records manager, so apologies if I have said anything
out of turn.
