Hertfordshire is not a county that is readily associated with early
industrialisation, much less the manufacture of silk ... The silk mill at
St Albans still exists as a block of apartments, the silk mill at Redbourn
was taken over by Brooke Bond, and the silk mill at Tring is, I believe,
still in use as a factory/workshop ~ but memory of the original use of
these buildings has already faded. Few people, even among members of local
history societies, know of their past importance. Is that the sort of
building you had in mind?
