According to Richardson's The Local Historian's encyclopedia, a goad
(also called a Lugg) is a measure of 15-20 feet.
The SOED is more precise: a. (1727) a cloth measure of 4.5 feet;
b. (1587) a land measure of 15, or (locally) 9 feet.
Take your pick!
