I meant to reply to Frances' post on promoting libraries at the time,
but forgot... :-(
What I'd wanted to do was draw attention to some work that OCLC did
in this area in North America, as reported at the time (January) on
the CIE blog...

advocating_for.html
They centrally produced a set of posters and copy suitable for
running in newspapers, and provided the tools for local libraries to
modify the copy to include their own details within the broader
campaign.
On a related note, and as it's currently blaring in my left ear, I'd
also have to suggest that the best possible way to get children to
use libraries would be to have Tracy Beaker (http://www.bbc.co.uk/
cbbc/tracybeaker/) visit one! In fact, kill two birds with one
stone. Maybe the storyline could be that she doesn't get any pocket
money because of some misdemeanour or other, and visits a library to
borrow the new Harry Potter book (once it's out, of course)!
I wonder if the Dumping Ground car park would have room for a mobile
library? ;-)
