TWO PhD STUDENTSHIPS for the EPSRC Project on
Intelligent Decision Support for Process Re-design and Conformance
Industrial Collaborators: BT Plc. and Engineous Software Ltd.
Duration: September 2005 - September 2008
Supervisor: Dr Ashutosh Tiwari
LAST DATE FOR APPLICATION: 15 JUNE 2005
Cranfield University is now advertising for TWO FULLY FUNDED PhD STUDENTSHIPS for the EPSRC project on 'Intelligent Decision Support for Process Re-design and Conformance'. Cranfield University is a leading centre for Applied Soft Computing and Process Design. Soft Computing is a paradigm that offers a consortium of techniques (including Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks and Evolutionary Computing) for handling real-life complexities such as imprecision and uncertainty. Leveraging on Cranfield's expertise in these areas, this project will expand the boundary of Soft Computing research to the domain of Business Process Re-design.
The design and management of business processes is a key factor for companies to effectively compete in today's volatile business environment. The aim of this project is to provide computer assisted process improvement with conformity feedback. The two project students will be expected to develop a generic Soft Computing based framework for: (i) capturing the business processes in an automated manner, (ii) identifying bottleneck areas and interactively optimising the process design, and (iii) monitoring people for conformance to the optimal model. The main research contribution of the two project students will respectively be in the areas of Soft Computing and Process Design. The scope of this interdisciplinary framework is in the computer assisted business processes within Service/IT industry. This project involves close collaboration with the industrial partners: BT Plc. and Engineous Software Ltd.
These studentships are available to UK and EU students only. Applicants should have a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree (or its equivalent) in Computer Science or Engineering disciplines. In addition, an MSc degree in these disciplines or research / work experience in Soft Computing and Process Design would be beneficial. Interested Graduate / Postgraduate students with Computer Science / Engineering background are invited to submit their CV for an informal discussion over telephone or email.
Funding between £11,500 and £14,000 per year is available to suitably qualified UK and EU students only. In addition, tuition fees will be paid by the project.
