This is an advert for student researchers to work in London during July.
Apologies to all those for whom it is not relevant, but please do
circulate to anyone who might be interested.
Although it specifies that we are looking for students who are in
London, there is some flexibility about who can be taken on ... and it
provides a great opportunity for undergrad students looking for valuable
things to do during the vacation.
many thanks
Jane

Committed to social justice? Looking for a challenging and exciting paid
job this summer?
London Citizens seeks to recruit ten talented students based at
universities in London for a Summer Academy this July.
You will be employed to interview and organise low paid migrant workers
in the capital as part of the London Living Wage campaign. This campaign
has already secured major improvements in the pay and conditions of
cleaners in East London, and is now spreading into three new sectors
across the capital: luxury hotels, care work and transport.
London Citizens is the capital's largest and most diverse community
alliance. Through its broad network of community leaders and local civil
society institutions it brings the concerns of London's most
marginalised communities to the attention of powerful institutions and
individuals. London Citizens' campaigns have created real change in many
of the capital's most deprived neighbourhoods.
The 2005 Summer Academy will run for four weeks from Monday 4th July to
Friday 29th July. The academy is run in conjunction with Queen Mary,
University of London. You will be expected to participate in a Community
Organising and Leadership training on Saturday 16th July. You will be
paid £7 per hour for a 40 hour week, and all your travel expenses will
be covered. Qualities we will be looking for in successful candidates
include being politically aware; being able to work in a diverse group
and on your own initiative; and strong interpersonal and relational skills.
You are invited to a Summer Academy Information Evening at 6pm-7.30pm on
Monday 13th June in London Citizens office at 112 Cavell Street, E1 2JA.
This will be an opportunity to find out more about London Citizens' work
and the paid Summer Academy positions we are offering. Thursday 16th
June is the closing date for applications. Interviews will be on
Wednesday 22nd June. For further information or an application form
