Yes, I get about ten of these a week, partly through having multiple ids (posting ids) with our eBay research at Univ of Essex. It's technically known as 'phishing.' I quote: "In a phishing attack, a fraudster spams the Internet with email claiming to be from a reputable financial institution or e-commerce site. The email message urges the recipient to click on a link to update their personal profile or carry out some transaction. The link takes the victim to a fake website designed to look like the real thing. However, any personal or financial information entered is routed directly to the scammer.www.keybank.com/html/A-11.2.1.html <http://www.keybank.com/html/A-11.2.1.html> "
Best thing to do we these is forward them to [log in to unmask] Lots are extremely convincing. However, you'll know a real eBay e-mail as it begins with your name, rather than 'Dear eBay user.' Also, never follow links from an e-mail which looks like it comes from eBay. Always log directly into the site. It is interesting that phishing e-mails are making it so difficult to tell the authentic from the inauthentic - I've started to doubt authentic e-mails from eBay... such as 'your credit card has reached its expiry date.' An increasing problem for such e-commerce sites - how to denote their e-mails are authentic.
Best,
Becky

Yeah, it's common. And yes, it's a scam.

Has anyone else on here had an email purporting to be from Ebay? It starts
off by saying something like there has been 'unauthorised activity under your
account name on Ebay', with some sinister sounding blurb after that about
official, police even, investigation / action being taken to check this one out. A
weblink is added which links to a site looking very like an Ebay site. You are
urged to log on and check your account. If you do so, you are urged to enter
your details, including your credit card numbers. At this point I logged off
quick.
I suspect an ingenious scam, anyone else seen this?
