Dear Members,
Happily there are few formal obligations in being
Chair of CAS but there is one, calling the AGM! April marks the end of the
British Computer Society year and Specialist Groups are encouraged to have
an AGM as soon after the end of their year as possible. So this is notice
that the CAS AGM will be held at the Vasari lab of the School of the History
of Art, Birkbeck College at 5pm on Monday 23rd May. All welcome!
The address of the School is
43 Gordon Square
London WC1H 0PD
Tel 0207 631 6110
For a location map see the website www.bbk.ac.uk
The AGM Agenda will be:
1. To receive Chairman's Report
2. To receive Treasurer's Report
3. To elect officers
4. Any other business
Let me know if there are any items you would like to include.
CAS is now past its first year in re-constituted form and is up and running
and had a range of very interesting meetings and discussions, albeit London
based. Alan Sutcliffe has done stalwart service in getting PAGE back into
circulation and continuing the traditions. Paul Brown has initiated many of
the most interesting meetings and, personally, I found the Creativity and
Cognition Conference at Goldsmith's College last month, to which Paul
connected CAS, a stimulating and thought provoking affair.
Sadly, as reported in PAGE 60, Robin Shirley, original member and Vice-Chair
died after a short illness. He is a great loss to the society.
The CACHe project at Birkbeck, which triggered the re-creation of CAS, is
now into its final six months, Catherine Mason and Nick Lambert will present
progress on the project at the meeting to follow the AGM on Monday 23rd May.
This meeting is at the new London Knowledge Lab, a short walk from
Birkbeck.(www.lkl.ac.uk).
As one of the founder members of the Society and as Chair of System
Simulation Ltd, the birth of which in 1970 was closely interwoven with the
birth of the Society, I took on the task of chairing the new CAS. This has
been great fun and a real pleasure to work with the new committee. However I
saw this as an interim step and now that the Society in on its feet I feel
it's appropriate to vacate the chair for someone better connected to the
contemporary computer art world. I believe Paul Brown is the ideal
candidate so I have nominated Paul as Chair, Alan has seconded this and Paul
has accepted the nomination. If there are no other nominations Paul's
position will be confirmed at the AGM.
I hope to see many of you at the AGM
Best wishes
George Mallen
