Actually I think it could be a helpful analogy, but not quite as proposed!
I'd say, from the stricter point of view of metadata, most of the
information on the label describes attributes of the contents, not
metadata. However, if there is a copyright notice, or trademark claims, or
information about the designers of the label, that would strictly be
metadata in my view.
I think I'm also suggesting that stricter view of metadata to be simpler
and more tractable when it comes to writing standards and specifications.
