Hello everybody,
just to add to the long list of introductions that some members of the list will find in their Inbox on Monday morning...
I am Kostas Arvanitis. My background is in archaeology and museum studies. Currently, I am towards the end of my PhD, at the Department of Museum Studies, University of Leicester, UK.
My doctoral research brings together everyday life, archaeological monuments, museums and mobile phones. First, it explores how residents of the city of Thessaloniki (Greece) perceive and use the city's archaeological monuments that stand on streets, parks and pavements. Regarding this, I have been inspired by theorists of everyday life, mainly Michel de Certeau and Henri Lefebvre. Second, it examines the potential of using camera phones and MMS (used by their owners), to capture and reveal these 'invisible but ever present' everyday meanings of the archaeological monuments for the museum.
I am very pleased to have met you all through the introuduction emails and I am looking forward to read and write in the 'Writing-and-the-digital-life'.
Best wishes,
Kostas
