I have found this to be the case too. As I understand it a version
upgrade to a moodle installation incrementally upgrades the database
structure to the new version automatically. You (or your technical bods
anyway) should have no problem upgrading to the latest version of 1.4.4+

Hi Sandra,
In my experience, Moodle upgrades very smoothly and easily (unlike a
certain proprietary VLE that I won't name!)

Subject: [VLES] HELP WITH MOODLE
We are using Moodle as our VLE at Ashton Sixth Form College. The
servers
are based at our local authority offices so we have no technical input.
We are using an older version of Moodle at the moment but a new version
has
been promised. The technical people are now telling me that our
existing
files will not transport to a newer version of Moodle so they won't
upgrade
at the moment. This is causing some inconvenience because the version
we
are using doesn't accept SCORM compliant materials and has limited
facilities.
Is there anyone on this list who has used Moodle for a while and
successfully migrated to a newer version without having to reload all
files?
