Summary: FITSEXIST needs write permission to the NDF !?
Product: KAPPA
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: KAPPA
AssignedTo: [log in to unmask]
ReportedBy: [log in to unmask]

I'm trying to use FITSEXIST to query whether a certain keyword is present in a
NDF file which is in a central directory owned by a different user. This fails
as it claims it needs write permission to the file:
fitsexist /data/root/flat_median W_SUM
!! Error opening file /data/root/flat_median.sdf for read/write access -
! Permission denied
! HDS_OPEN: Error opening an HDS container file.
! NDF_OPEN: Error opening an NDF data structure.
! Unable to get an NDF identifier for '/data/root/flat_median'
! FITSMOD: Error editing FITS extension in an NDF.
! Application exit status DAT__FILPR, File protected
! edit=exist mode=interface /data/root/flat_median W_SUM
(The file in question has world read permission)
To check whether a keyword exists, surely it only needs to read from the NDF ?
This happens with both Starlink CVS (KAPPA v1.4-2) and "normal" Starlink (KAPPA
v1.3-1)
Thanks,
Tim
