Dear colleagues,
just a note to remind anyone who is inetnding to come to this meeting that it is still on. If you could let me know if you are coming I'd be grateful so we know how much food to organise! So far I have about 20 people coming, many as representatives of other groups.
best wishes
Colin
Apologies for cross-posting
Dear colleagues,
Since I floated the idea of developing closer links within the broad public policy, public administration and pubic management academic communities in the UK back in August last year there has been a fairly positive response. Just under 200 people have signed up to the "UK-APPAM" email list. Discussions have been held within the Social Policy Association Executive, the UK Evaluation Society and LARIA and there have been a lot of one-to-one exchanges with me on the topic.
Clearly there are many obstacles and reservations around, but there does seem to be goodwill towards at least some sort of attempt at a more "joined up" approach.
The best way forward seems to be to hold an initial meeting of interested parties. I have mulled over ways of doing this and come to the conclusion that the best thing to do is simply hold an 'open' meeting to which anyone motivated enough by the issues can come. Obviously it is to be hoped that some 'representative' people from organisations like the SPA, UKES, LARIA, PAC, PSA(PA Group), PMPA etc will be able to attend. But at this stage a fairly open and informal discussion would seem the best approach.
I have therefore booked a room for us at University of Nottingham on 29th April. I propose we hold the meeting from 11am until 3pm which should give us adequate scope for an initial airing of issues. The Nottingham Policy Centre will provide lunch etc.
The full details are: Room A100, 'New Wing' (known locally as 'The West Wing'), Law and Social Sciences Building, University Park - 11.00am to 3.00pm. Travel details and maps for UoN are on our website ( www.nottingham.ac.uk ).
Anyone who wishes to attend please let Sarah Staples (cc'd above know).
Please circulate this email to any colleagues you think might be interested but might not have seen it.
best wishes
Colin
