** High Priority **
Dear all,
As jobs in the philosophy of sport are very rare, I thought I should
let you know that there is currently a post available at Edge Hill,
which, despite the rather misleading ad, is a philosophy/ethics of sport
job. Over the last three or four years I have managed to build a
significant role for philosophy of sport within our degree programmes.
This allowed me to convince my Head of Department that we need to
appoint another philosopher. Understandably, they were a little worried
about placing too much emphasis on philosophy of sport in the ad because
it was felt that to do so might reduce the number of applications. The
result is an ad that gives little indication of what the job entails.
So, for those who may be looking for a job, or who know someone who is,
here is an outline of what is involved:
Working with me (not as bad as it might sound) teaching modules on
philosophy/ethics of sport.
Developing new modules in philosophy/ethics of sport.
There will be opportunities for MA teaching and curriculum design
soon.
PhD supervision is an option for suitably qualified individuals.
Teaching loads are light (around two modules per semester), and would
be even lighter for the first year.
The post has been advertised as L/SL, but I think that it would be
particularly well suited to a doctoral student looking for a first job.
Details can be found here: http://www.edgehill.ac.uk/jobs
The post you are looking for is L/SL in Sports Studies Ref: EH1063
Feel free to phone or e-mail me with any questions as I think that
would probably give a better indication of what the post entails than
the general information in the ad.
Best wishes
Leon
