I am relatively new to this list so please excuse any errors or assumptions I
may make.
The area I am interested in is bordered to the north by Ruabon and to the
south by Oswestry, including Chirk and Ifton. I am seeking sources of
material and records relating to both coal mining and the iron industry,
particularly those mines and forges closed prior to the beginning of the 20th
C.
One feature I am looking for in particular is a forge or ironworks in the
Daywell area (close to Gobowen) since I can remember finding large quantities
of 'vitreous' material along the bed of the Perry Brook, very close to where
Daywell colliery was sunk. I can find no reference to it either in the County
Record Office at Shrewsbury or on the 1st Edition OS plans.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
