Lecturer in German (Fixed-term)
The University of Nottingham is the first, and so far the only, foreign university to have received a licence to establish a campus in China under new legislation passed in China in 2003.
Working with the Wanli Education Group, based in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, and with political support at municipal, provincial and national levels, the campus opened with its first 250 Foundation students in September 2004. For the first year, the campus has been based at Zhejiang Wanli University in Ningbo. A new state-of-the-art campus is being built and will open in September 2005. The student population is predicted to grow to 4,000 by 2010, with a second phase of expansion planned.
The School of Modern Languages is leading the way in creating a BA in International Communication Studies at the new campus, with teaching to begin in September 2005. Proposed modules on the degree include a core of European language throughout, together with modules in the Theory and Practice of Communication Studies, Media, Cinema, Literature, Cultural Studies and linguistics.
Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in German to support teaching on the new BA degree in International Communications Studies. Candidates should have the ability to teach German from beginners level onwards and should have research interests in European communications, cultural and/or media studies. Candidates should have at least an upper second degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area and have successfully completed, or be close to completion of, a doctoral thesis. Teaching experience at degree level and a publication record are desirable.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out research and administrative duties appropriate to an academic post.
Salary will be within the range £23,643 - £27,116 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. A competitive overseas package of benefits is also available if appropriate. This post will be based in Ningbo and will be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo for a period of two years. The successful candidate will be required to take up the post in China from 1 September 2005.
