The Department of German Studies in the School of Modern Languages and
European Studies has a vacancy for a 0.5 post as Lector in German for the
period October 2005 to June 2006 (with the possibility of extension into
subsequent academic years). The successful candidate will teach 6 hours a
week of language classes at a variety of undergraduate levels. Teaching
will typically involve a mixture of textbook-based classes, oral German,
translation into German, possibly also German for Business Purposes. The
lector will be involved in the examination of courses, will collaborate
wherever appropriate with the department's full-time lector, and will be
expected to attend relevant departmental meetings.
This post may be of interest to someone already holding a similar 0.5 post
in the area, and the Department would seek to assist in such a situation by
limiting teaching responsibilities to 2-3 days a week. Preference will be
given to native speakers of German but applicants with near-native-speaker
competence may be considered.
