Applications are invited for one Researcher/Senior-Researcher position in
BT's Intelligent Systems Research & Innovation Centre (ISRIC). The ISRIC is
one of the centres within BT Group’s Research and Venturing division. The
ISRIC carries out world class research and advanced development activities
for BT in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, intelligent optimisation
technology, Agent technology, Soft Computing and Evolutionary Computing.
Research teams within ISRIC take part in international R&D programmes with
well-known universities and BT's partners and suppliers to ensure that the
research remains leading edge and relevant to BT's strategic objectives.
ISRIC teams have been successfully downstreaming and exploiting results of
their research in the company's business units creating significant values
for BT.
The role of the successful candidate will be to undertake research and
development work in the area of network optimisation. She/He will be
expected to propose, develop and deliver optimisation solutions based on AI
(metaheuristics, graph theory algorithms) to telecommunication network problems.
ESSENTIAL
This appointment demands:
• Substantial knowledge at a high level, eg PhD or equivalent, in artificial
intelligence. We are looking in particular for candidates having strong
experience in applying meta-heuristics (Local Search, Simulated Annealing,
Tabu Search, Genetic Algorithms, etc.) to combinatorial optimisation in
general. • good software engineering skills and practical experience in OO
methodology, Java and systems programming • an inquiring mind with a
preference for working within less defined boundaries, excellent creativity,
self motivation and good written and oral communication skills, and must be
passionate about achieving results DESIRABLE • Some knowledge on graph
theory algorithms and telecommunication network optimisation problems
(network design, network routing, etc.).
