Laboratorio di Scienze della Cittadinanza, a Rome-based research institute,
invites all interested researchers and practitioners to post their contribution to
the e-conference on skilled migrations and integration policies which is under
way on the project website:
http://www.smiam.org/forum/forum.asp
By skilled immigrants it is meant, above all, “recent” immigrants (since 1990) or
refugees from non-OECD states who obtained a high academic qualification in
their own country. This is a group which often faces great difficulties in
achieving a job and social position consistent with their skills and qualifications.
The e-conference is one of the first initiatives of the Skilled Migrations
European Research and Policy Network (SMEN), promoted by LSC in the
framework of the EU-funded project SMIAM (Skilled Migrants Integration
Assessment Model) in partnership with Verwey Jonkers Instituut (Utrecht)
and the Higher Institute for Labour Studies (Leuven).
Membership to the network is open to all those who are interested in enhancing
policies and research on the condition of skilled immigrants in Europe.
