Hello all,
For various reasons it seems a good time to remind/let you know of
what's happening with the LOM standard.
1. LOM corrigendum
As I mentioned in a previous email, Erik Duval , the technical editor
for the LOM, is gathering information on corrections that people feel
are necessary in the current version of the LOM. I have let him know
about problems that we have had relating to vCard (namely the examples
in the data model being wrong) and asked whether the vocabulary for 9.1
Educational.Purpose is correct in having "accessibility" and
"restrictions" on seperate lines, giving the impression that they are
two distinct terms whereas earlier drafts and the LOM XML binding draft
have "accessibility restrictions" as a single term.
Can I encourage you to submit any other suspected errors to the LOM Next
wiki at http://ariadne.cs.kuleuven.ac.be/vqwiki-2.5.5/jsp/Wiki?LOMnext
(when it works)
If you would like to discuss something before you submit it as an error,
or want a second opinion, then please feel free to use this list (or
contact me or Lorna off list if you prefer).
2. LOM version 2
Work on a more substantial revision/next version of the LOM is also
under way, targeted for 2008. Ideas for the form version 2 should take
can also be discussed on the LOM Next wiki.
3. LOM XML
I know you've heard similar before, but it really does look like the
work on getting the XML binding of the LOM accepted as an IEEE standard
is coming to its conclusion. According to Erik, publication is expected
before this Summer. I believe (and I hope someone on this list will tell
me if I am wrong) that the approved version was draft 8, from 16
February 2005, available from
http://ltsc.ieee.org/wg12/files/IEEE_1484_12_03_d8_submitted.pdf .
All the best, Phil
