TABLOID CULTURE AND MEDIA SPECTACLE
2nd Annual Symposium
Roehampton University Chapman Hall Southlands Campus
Roehampton Lane London SW15 5PH
Saturday 21st May 9-5pm
The phrase tabloid culture refers not only to traditional genres such
as the tabloid press but also to more unstable and evolving generic
formations that draw on discourses and practices which were once
confined to tabloid journalism and related genres but are now diffused
into media culture in general.
'Tabloid Culture and Media Spectacle' is the second annual symposium
organised by the Centre for Research in Film and Audiovisual Cultures
at Roehampton University, London. The event will explore the
evolution, parameters and new directions of tabloid culture in order to
think through its cultural and political implications addressing
issues including politics and the popular, celebrity culture, media
spectacle, tabloid news, journalism and factual programming.
