Hi Scott,
The Images of Life project was mine. I don't know what level of
sophistication you're looking for, but it's perhaps not as restricted as
Colin's comment would imply.
It's basically been built as a multi-tiered web application with relational
tables in mySQL as the data tier, some PHP queries as the business tier and
Flash as the client tier - the protocol between the Flash and the PHP is
Flash-Remoting so there's additional PHP in the business tier, but over all
it's a pretty basic and easy build, with loads of scope for expansion
adaptation and swapping out tiers.
