Hi Susan,
I am a consultant, not an end user, but I have some background in a number
of these tools. If you can provide a bit more detail with regards to this
initiative, I can provide some additional information on things to look
for...and look out for.
In brief, I'd say that even an inexpensive tool is better than nothing in
most cases, and is better for most organizations than most solutions
(consisting of keeping all email forever or keeping email for very short
periods of time, e.g. 30 days).
