Rebecca Beard & Brenda Garvey (eds), 'Shelving Translation', special issue of
'EnterText' 4.3 (Winter 2004/5). This is an online publication, available at
http://www.brunel.ac.uk/faculty/arts/EnterText/issue_4_3_s.htm
This issue presents selected papers from the "Shelving Translation" conference
held at Oxford University in April 2004. The conference brought together
academics, translators, publishers, reviewers and booksellers to discuss the
role of the translated text in contemporary Britain, and the publication aims
to reflect this diversity of approach. Fundamental to the project is a concern
to account for the practicalities of the British market. Each article, within
its own framework, steps beyond the abstracting tendencies of theory to look at
how recent translated texts have been incorporated into the British cultural
sphere.
