Thanks for putting this together Phil. This is a really useful resource.

Hello all,
partly in response to Fred's suggestion last month that a "LOM
cataloguing guide for dummies" would be nice, I've put together a list
of guides to metadata (in general), guides to the LOM (specifically) and
cataloguing guides for repositories that use the LOM. I'm not sure that
a "LOM cataloguing guide for dummies" is possible: the guides to the LOM
tend assume that you've graduated from "metadata for dummies", and
cataloguing guides tend to relate to the application interface or and
application profile rather than the metadata schema per se. Still I hope
there's information here that will help you progress from "dummy" to LOM
cataloguer.
If anyone knows of any other guides they would recommend, then send them
in--especially if you have a guide to your own implementation of the LOM
that you would be willing to share. All comments welcome.
Finally, can anyone help me track down an introduction to metadata from
about one or two years ago which was in the form of a photo-novel. It
made the business case for how metadata could help when working to
produce a resource against a tight deadline. The case illustrated was
magazine publishing, and I think it was related to an industry standard
(maybe from someone like ONYX, OASIS or PRISM)--but with a bit of
imagination you could see how it would apply to producing a course.
All the best, Phil.
