This build, and I think one other, failed last night: although they got
through the make and make install stages, due to the conditional build
stuff I did yesterday, they failed on 'make dist'.
It would be possible to make the same changes to other makefile targets
beyond 'all' and 'install', but it would be ugly and errorprone, I
think, as well as being unnecessary -- what's there now lets 'make
world' work. If any user, having seen the output explanation, presses
ahead and tries 'make dist', they probably deserve all they get for not
reading what's on the screen.
Can I suggest, therefore, changing the 'make dist' command in the build
script to
test -f STAR_SUPPRESS_BUILD || make dist
or something like it. What do you think?
