Thanks Simon - useful information!
Regarding your last point, though, I thought, though, Bell Bros. became
part of Dorman Long in 1923.
An Extraordinary Meeting at Company’s officers in Zetland House,
Middlesbro’ on 17/4/1923 agreed, on the proposal of the Chairman,
seconded by Charles Dorman:
“that the Company be wound up voluntarily and that Mr. Thomas Duncan
Henlock(?) Stubbs be and he is hereby appointed Liquidator for the
purpose of such liquidation.”
and to distribute assets amongst ordinary shareholders remaining after
the satisfactory claims of creditors and preferential shareholders.
“and that accordingly the liquidators be authorised to transfer,
convey, deliver and make over to Dorman, Long & Co. Ltd. as the holders
of all the ordinary shares the remainder of the assets of the Company.”
This was confirmed at a further Extraordinary Meeting of Preferential
Shareholders on 2/5/1923.
(The Minutes are in Middlesbrough Library.)
