medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Thanks to all who have responded, but I'm still not much clearer about the
case in point. In what sense is there actually a cult of St Aldate? Does
he (I'm assuming gates are masculine) actually have any votaries? I suppose
it could be argued (by a hard-pressed Curia) that having two ancient
churches dedicated to St Aldate could be regarded as prima facie evidence of
the existence of a cult. But as both those churches are now Anglican,
couldn't the Roman Catholic Church regard it as now someone else's problem?
