Could anyone please tell me the correct term for when churches occur side
by side. I saw a picture once of two apparently identical buildings, built
I think, by two sisters who had each inherited half the estate and couldn't
agree to have one building - or something like that. Did the phenomenon
occur often enough for it to have acquired a technical term? And does
anyone know Shotesham, in Norfolk? That parish formerly had 4 churches, two
of them, the still extant St Mary's and the ruins of the medieval St
Martin's only a stone's throw apart? Would they count as double (or
whatever the word is) churches? I'd like to read up on the matter, but
can't find a suitable subject heading.
