The Department of Italian intends to appoint a specialist in the field of
post-medieval Italian studies. Experts in the areas of Italian literature,
drama, gender studies, intellectual history, and cultural history are
encouraged to apply. Whilst applications are encouraged from candidates
expert in these areas from any period after the Middle Ages, applications
are especially welcome from candidates also able to teach mid-to-late
eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature and culture and/or the
questione della lingua. The successful applicant will be expected to
contribute to the teaching of undergraduate papers and to develop a new
paper in the general area of mid-to-late eighteenth- and nineteenth-century
studies. She or he will also be expected to offer a new Masters module for
the MPhil in European Literature and Culture and to supervise PhD students.
She or he should also be qualified to participate in the teaching of the
Italian language. The successful candidate would be expected to have an
outstanding record of research and/or publication, and to take up her or
his duties on 1 October 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The current pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is
£24,820 rising incrementally to £38,303. The post is being advertised with
