Perhaps, but is still better than archaeologist. I don't see why we
can't be environmentalists after all the "natural" environment is a sub
set of the Historic Environment

One last one on this if I may. I've just remembered the first time I
came across the phrase 'historic environment' used in the sense we
mean
it now was the early 1990's conference organised by RESCUE. Published
as
Swain, H. (Ed.) (1993) Rescuing the Historic Environment: Archaeology,
The Green Movement and Conservation Strategies for the British
Landscape. RESCUE
Much as I like the sentiments behind the term, I still think it has a
long way to go to make the move into the main-stream in the same way
that 'environment' more broadly has. E.g you hear talk of
'environmentalists', 'environmentally-friendly' products and policies
etc, but has anyone used 'historic environmentalist' to describe
themselves? Can we make 'brown' the new 'green' :-)
Best wishes
Ed
