Health Services Researcher - Ref COAST PROG-1
Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate in the Medical
Research Council's Health Services Research Collaboration (HSRC), located
in the Department of Social Medicine at the University of Bristol (5* rated
research department). This is an MRC Band 4 post, available from May 2005,
starting salary £24,138 - £27,249 depending on qualifications and
experience. The funding for the post will run to 31 March 2009.
You will carry out mainly qualitative work on the HSRC's research
programme: "Effective and cost effective care for older people: using SPDCM
to inform decision making for older people." You will work within a
multidisciplinary team consisting of economists, statisticians, ethicists,
qualitative researchers and other health service researchers. Work will
involve carrying out in-depth interviews with older people on a variety of
subject matters; analysis of qualitative data (using techniques including
content and thematic analysis, as appropriate); assisting in the fieldwork
for discrete choice experiments; some basic analysis of quantitative data;
literature searching and review; preparation and delivery of manuscripts
for publication; and other involvement in the programme in collaboration
with the programme leaders.
You should have a good first degree in social science or health economics,
and a Masters or PhD (or equivalent experience) in qualitative research
methods or health services research or health economics. You require good
qualitative research skills. You also need the ability to work well
independently and in a team, and to communicate effectively orally and in
writing. Interest in working with older people would be an advantage, as
would previous research experience in the health field. Potential
applicants are encouraged to discuss the post informally with Dr Joanna
Coast ([log in to unmask]).
