It is questionable whether UpToDate is an EBM resource, but it is certainly a very popular tool for our medical students. UpToDate editors rely on 330+ key journals and write what are basically review articles. I think of it as conveniently packaged expert opinion. A review was published in the Journal of the Medical Library Association in 2003:

In response to concerns regarding the quality of content in UpToDate, they established an EBM advisory board:

Subject: EBM on the web
Hello all,
I just found out about www.uptodateonline.com a clinical information resource.
Does anyone have experience with this service?
We already have access to the OVID EBM databases: Cochrane and ACP.
How does it compare to
- the ACP journal club http://www.acponline.org/catalog/journals/acpjc.htm
- Cochrane SR http://www.cochrane.org/cochrane/cdsr.htm
- BMJ Clinical evidence http://www.clinicalevidence.com
- MD Consult
and others?
I did find this article:
TI: Finding the evidence for therapeutic PICO questions on four electronic resources
AU: Dyserinck, Heleen; Frijns, José; Gu, Ping; Loep, Marjan
SO: Library Review; 53 (3) 2004, pp.142-149
The PR of Uptodate mentions four independent university studies...
(Our focus is psychiatry / psychotherapy / addiction treatment)
Many thanks in advance for any comment!
Best regards,
