Dear Colleagues,
This is an invitation to interested parties to discuss the revision of AACR
and the wider issues of content standard guidelines that surround it.
DCMI has been approached by the Outreach Committee of AACR to see if there
is a way to connect the AACR3 development process with other metadata
standard makers and users. Part of the DC Libraries charter is to provide a
platform for communication with other bibliographic bodies so this would
seem to be an appropriate activity for us to undertake.
The revision of AACR is managed by the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) and
they would welcome the establishment of a channel for comments from the DC
community. There is a draft of Part I (Description) of 'AACR3: Resource
Description and Access' currently out for review on a restricted basis. The
proposal is to form a sub-group of the DC Libraries WG of which up to 10
interested members can have access to the draft and are encouraged to
comment on the revised edition.
Other members may be more interested in consideration of AACR and issues of
content standard guidelines more generally. Matthew Beacom of the JSC will
be on the group and ensure comprehensive feedback.
Please let me know if you are interested in joining this sub-group and
suggest individuals from other sectors who may be interested. Deadlines for
comments on the revised edition are tight - 8 April - so we need to move
quite quickly on this.
Regards,
Robina
