Hello, everyone,
My name is Paula Pratt, and I've been involved in
Irish Studies for nearly 20 years. I did my doctoral
work on contemporary Irish women's poetry, and
recognize several names I've seen since joining the
list last fall.
Currently I am teaching in a U.S.-style university in
Morocco (Al Akhawayn University) and have finally
received a research grant to try and finish the
project begun with my Ph.D. dissertation: a chamber
theatre production based on some of the poems of Irish
women. I will be traveling to Ireland in March,
around the 10th to 21st, and am interested in making
contacts with some of the women I haven't seen in
years. (I've been away from direct involvement in
ACIS, for example, and other Irish studies contacts
due to the more practical demands of teaching and
involvement in issues concerning women in this part of
the world.)
I'm wondering if there is a directory or list of some
sort (an email list, perhaps?) which I could use to
contact women poets. Poetry Ireland, perhaps? Any
other more recent network I'm not aware of? I have
phone numbers and snail mail addresses for some of the
women, but no email addresses.
I also wonder if there is any interest (among list
members, and affiliated groups, for starters) for
hearing a presentation on women in Morocco/ women in
Islam (as experienced by a "western" woman). When I
was in Dublin last summer (at the UK/Irish Women's
Studies conference) some people expressed the idea,
but at the time I didn't know that I'd have this grant
and be coming this spring.
I'd appreciate any information/suggestions, etc. that
anyone has. My regular academic email is:

I tend to read that more often, due to occasional
problems with our internet server.
Thanks,
Paula Pratt
