Why should we not do the LP?
If we have the facilities of an observation ward, then bailing out to the
medical registrar to do a relatively simple procedure which enables a
decision on patient disposal can occur only highlights why Emergency
medicine/A&E struggles to get the recognition of its importance by in
patient specialties. It leads to more work for the in patient teams, and
sometimes less safe care, as the medical registrar may decide in his opinion
the LP is not necessary.
