Until the public get educated or Primary Care provides instant access we
will continue to be used like this.
--> I would expect there are around 1,000,000 things easier to accomplish
than educating the public about this... Not sure I'd like to try.
I expect things will get much busier still and continue to do so, especially
as nowadays patients who DO decide to go to the GP despite the inconvenience
of doing so, arrive at the GP to find someone they have never seen before.
Their records are there, but electronic records will eventually make info
available anywhere, so no advantage.
What we need to do as a specialty is make sure we accept how indispensible
we are, make everyone else aware that we have realised this, and start
asking for what we want in return for being the lifeline for the NHS.
